Polo York Division 4 - 11 Feb 2012Results for FOA D against Wildcatz C, York University, Stingrays, Pennine D, Hull Otters :
Results are all well and good but they don't tell of the fun and adventure. The team was James (Mallon), Michael (Burrows), Jay, Ellis and surprise surprise me ! The trip over to York was trouble free, albeit with 4 lots 50mph speed limits due to roadworks - one 12 miles long. There's been snow on the top of the Pennines for some weeks now but despite the recent cold weather none on the hard shoulder like a couple of weeks ago. There was more snow beyond Leeds but none on the roads. Temperatures were 1 or 2 C. Apparently it had been minus 12 C at Tadcaster overnight. We arrived with enough time to eat a sandwich and contemplate throwing a snowball or two from that around the pool car park. The first match against Wildcatz C was close to start with but James managed two goals. As an oldie, I'm almost as old as the ages of the rest of the team put together, my main role was just to be in the way of the opposing team. And what hard work that is, but not as hard as trying to get near the opposing goal and then rush back in case of a break. The second match against York University was OK but I think we could have done better. Some of the York team were not so experienced. One committed a foul by reaching over my boat to try to get the ball. Even I knew that would be a foul. Her team mates asked her what she was doing. She replied she did not know in such a way everyone was amused. Stingrays were by far the best team there. We got cained 3 goals to nothing in the first half. In the second half they were all over us. I for one could hardly stop them passing by me and getting close to our goal. Fortunately for us their shooting had gone completely haywire and their chances turned to no more goals for them. Still 3-0 against is not so bad. They put 8 past Wildcatz C. Match 4 seemed to be going against us for a bit with Pennine D scoring first. Then James equalised. They scored again. James equalised again. I don't know why but it seemed to drift away from our opponents and Jay picked up a couple of match winners. Our last game was against Hull Otters. A somewhat similar game to that against Pennine D but goals by Jay, James and Michael countered their two. Thanks to my team mates, and the opposition, for making the whole experience fun. And thanks to Mike Moffitt for organising the entry and team. Next time Rosie, you're playing Comments (1)
Universities Canoe Polo League Tournament 2 - Full ResultsThe results listed below are from the game record sheets to hand. They have suffered somewhat from the rain and some of the scorer numbers are my best interpretation of the marks, pencil and 'engraving', that remain on the sheets.
Open Division 1
Open Division 2
Mixed Division
F - indicates forfeiting team. Hallam takes 3 points for each of these matches. Lest anyone should wonder, the forfeit is really just that Nottingham and Bangor advised the could not play these games largely due to the unavailability of boats in which to paddle. Congratulations to Tournament top scorer, Jack Gledhill, FOA with no less than 18 in the tournament proper and another two in the short Bangor (FOA) v. Hallam extra match. Universities Canoe Polo League Tournament 2Firstly many thanks to all who made todays (11th Dec 2011) event run so well - in preparation and execution.
The results are: Open Division 1 (Pitch 2, Centre Pitch)
Open Division 2 (Pitch 3, Pitch Nearest River)
Mixed Division (Pitch 1, Pitch Nearest Merseysports Centre)
Division 1 results are as currently to hand. Only the first 10 of 14 games on the result sheet to hand have scores. Division 2 second Liverpool v. Manchester game was not listed on the game plan so Liverpool and Manchester each played 5 games instead of 6. Mixed division Hallam credited with 3 points for each of the two games for which the oponents (Nottingham and Bangor) did not play. FOA played a non-tournament short match (sort of on behalf of Bangor) for the final match against Hallam and won 3-2. Scorers were 21, 10, 21 for Bangor (FOA) and 3, 5 for Hallam.
